What is foot and heel reconstruction?

Tissue defects may occur in the ankle and heel region due to diabetes, osteomyelitis, trauma, tumour excision and need to be covered with flaps. The countercurrent sural island flap is a reliable option for the repair of defects in this region. Other treatment options are decided by considering the indications according to the patient and the patient’s condition.

What are the application steps of foot and heel reconstruction?

If the width of the defect in the heel and foot area is suitable for the length of the reversed sural flap pedicle, the defect is closed with a reversed sural flap under spinal or general anaesthesia and the flap donor area is usually grafted. After lying in a certain position for about 1 week postoperatively and gaining circulation of the tissue, the patient gradually returns to normal life.
